Last night i was just thinking to myself, we all know Alibaba.com, it is not complicated to use and there is actually no reason why we shouldnt be able to buy stuff on there and market the same.
So my question is, how come most young people ( I included) dont want to make good use of this site. I know it is a Chinese site but it is in English and i dont see why people dont use it.
Personally when i started looking into this, the quantities demanded just seemed to be too much. for instance, the minimum order of kitenge is 10,000 yards at a cost of $1.6 per yard for one of the companies. whilst i surely cannot afford this, closer looks shows there are smaller companies willing to sell at small quantities just like i would want to buy at small quantities. Funds are an issue to a single individual, but banks are willing to lend to groups. As long as you are creative, there is no reason why you shouldnt be able to raise the funds.
Go to Coop branch and ask the customer service manager for the details on the loan- all they need is some book keeping on a paper and to see tha the account is active - actually with two bank accounts and 10k you can achieve this in two different banks.
Anyway, those are my thoughts for the day!

Continued from Information Information .....2
In nairobi a kilo of chicken meat goes for around 350 shillings per kilo. A Dorep chicken matures for meat at 6-8 weeks if well fed and can weigh around 4-5 kg for hen and 8-10 kg for the cocks.
My research shoes that a chicken feeds on 150 grams on average over its life.
Just like Kenbro Chicken, Dorep variety of Chicken start laying eggs at 4.5 -5 months. As such if one lacks a market, the Chicken can be kept as Layers. As mentioned previoulsy the eggs can be bought back by Dorep as long as you bought the original stock of chicks from them. you also need to follow their feeding and medicating guidelines to be a position to sell the eggs back to them.
The Dorep business model basically helps small scale farmers with breeding stock, management and marketing of their produce.
A bag of 70 kg feeds go for 3,000 shillings although this price fluctuates throught the year. as such if the operation is continous throught the year the farmer should be able to average out the cost with the profits across the price fluctuations.
On average outside Nairobi a labourer is paid 5,000 shillings a month. With a ready market this is a viable business project

Dorep Eggs and chicken
I have finally made a visit to Dorep, they seem a bit reluctant to give you information over the phone but face to face they are actually very helpful.
To qualify for some of their services you would need to be a member.
To become a member you need to be able to save less than 10,000 Shilling but they dont ask for a bank statement for proof. so if you plan on visiting them, then leave you Chanel bag at home.
Second condition is to belong to a group, they dont accept individuals for some reason.
Thirdly you must participate in a merry go round costing you 200 shilling monthly
They sell Dorep eggs at 30 shillings to non members and this is the only service that non members qualify for
The members price is as below
eggs 30 shillings

Finally back......and some price information
it has been a while since a posted, but now i have more information on some pricing in Kenya for those interested.
I re-learnt in a day that lack of market information can possibly cost you a lot of money. For instance a 60 egg incubator costs you
13,000 shillings in Nairobi but 25,000 in Nakuru. The bus fair between the two
towns is 1,000 max returns.
In the same town the DIY guy sell a 200 egg incubator
without a guarantee and no promise of quality control at 156,000 shillings.
Just 5 minutes walk away a 264 egg professionally made incubator with a power
backup of 8 hours or can use firewood or charcoal goes for 95,000. I think that
is a significant price variation. Yet another seller sells the same thing without use
of fire wood or coal at 65,000. The catch with all the incubators is the lack of power back up
The information gap is unbelievable, but for best price
better looks far and wide. Check www.nairobidealfish.com
for prices.
If you need more details on the pricing above please get in touch with me via this blog, its free!
