Ok, for so many of you looking to start or grow your business, here is some information and a site link that may be of good use for you. Please note i havent talked to these guys or even used their products. However, i have had a look at their website and this is the most information i have seen on a site re Yoghurt and milk production supplies.
The site sells Cultures which i believe are a key ingredient to yoghurt production. They also do have a few more supplies such as packaging and although am not sure how much they cost - they are located in Westlands, so i guesse this is a good starting point of guessing how much they would be charging in their premiums.
Remember, you dont need the state of the art technology to start a yoghurt making operation. At present a small yoghurt ( 250 ml) goes for 90 shillings; a liter of cow milk goes for 25 shilling from farm gate. For this process to work you would need a fridge. As the process takes about 8 hours in the fridge, a small fridge costing 25k shillings would be great - you might need to rethink your power issues. If you have had a look at my blog you will notice backup power in Kenya is an issue and is also very expensive.
The market is not an issue as far as you are priced right, just walk around Nairobi and see how many people are walking about. The place is crowded, the shops are overpriced. You might need to geta few vendors in the market or roadside but it is very much doable if you ask me.
You dont need to be near or in Nairobi to do this, Nakuru and Kisumu are also heavily populated towns and most people would be looking for cheaper snacks or lunch thanks to the economy.
Anyway, above is the link, have a look and do a simple google on how to make Yoghurt......
Happy yoghurt making!
Thank you. Quite useful.
